What Are Some Health Benefits of Prebiotics?

Taking prebiotics for your body is very important if you want to be healthy and live a healthy life style.

Many people believe that prebiotics and other types of supplements are not important at all.  This is not true, and we have found that many supplements, including prebiotic supplements, do benefit the body in amazing ways.

Some people do not believe in supplementation but we are here to tell you that it really does wonders for the human body.

Prebiotics are a great alternative to fixing health related problems in the digestive system.

Many people end up taking medication for their digestive system problems, but there is no need to.  If you can naturally cure yourself, why take medicine?

Prebiotics are a natural alternative to both prescription medications and over the counter drugs.  In this article, we will explore some of the many health benefits of prebiotics that people do not know much about.

We are sure you will be greatly surprised when you find out these health benefits because they really can change your life in a positive way.

What Are Prebiotics?

Before we talk about all of the benefits of prebiotics, we are going to have to explain to you what prebiotics are first.  Prebiotics are indigestible food ingredients that have the ability to help the bacteria in our digestive system grow and reproduce.

Prebiotics are needed to give your body and your digestive system the boost it really needs.  We have found that prebiotics are really great for the body because they help to keep our digestive system in working order.

The ingredients found in prebiotics are indigestible because it is meant for the bacteria to digest, not our body.  Our natural flora is what helps to break down and digest food in our stomach, small intestine, and colon.

Natural flora is absolutely necessary for our body to work correctly because our body follows what is called homeostasis.

Homeostasis can be defined as keeping our body at a happy medium.  We do not want too much of something, but we do not want too little.  Keeping the body balanced causes it to be stronger and function correctly.

If your normal flora levels in your stomach flourish for whatever reason, you can end up getting sick because your body is now compensating for its loss.  Adversely, if you have too much natural flora, you could end up giving yourself a bacterial infection which could harm the body as well.  Prebiotics help to keep this homeostatic balance which is why they are so very important for our body.

Now that you know a little background information on prebiotics, we will now talk about the health benefits of them.  Back in the day, it was not confirmed whether or not prebiotics had other health benefits for our body.

After extensive research and clinical studies, it has been shown that prebiotics do have the ability to give many benefits to our body.  These benefits are great and they can really help many people feel better about themselves.

Prebiotic fiber was the first and foremost prebiotic supplement to be consumed by our early ancestors.  It was not known back then to have any health benefits, but it is now realized that the ingredients found in prebiotics do help the body.

Studies have shown that dietary inulin, which is a common prebiotic, has the ability to increase how much bifidobacteria is in our feces.  This is important because we want to have enough of this type of natural flora in our feces so we can assume our colon is working correctly.

Another benefit of prebiotics is that it can help to increase how much magnesium and calcium our body can absorb.  We can thank inulin and oligofructose for this benefit.

In our body, it is important that we absorb enough calcium and magnesium from the food we eat.  This can help to keep the body having strong bones and teeth.

If our body has extremely low levels of calcium stored, inulin can help to increase how much calcium we absorb.  This is beneficial so our body does not absorb too much calcium, and only absorbs excess when it is needed.

The next benefit for our health that comes from prebiotics is that it can help avoid colon cancer.  This is important because colon cancer has been on the rise lately and many people have unfortunately been developing it.

Inulin, oxylooigosaccharides, and oligofructose all help to make this happen.  It has also been found that xylooligosaccharides help to increase the amount of natural flora in our digestive system.  It is a very effective prebiotic and it is found in many supplements.

Diabetes is on the rise, but prebiotics can help with some of the side effects that happen with this disease.  It has been studied that if you take 4g each day of prebiotics you have the ability to lower your LDL levels, along with fasting glucose and oxLDL levels as well.

Diabetics need to worry about these things because of their condition. Prebiotics also have the ability of increasing how much fatty acid chains are synthesized in our colon.

One of these fatty acids, which is important for our body, is butyric acid.  Taking prebiotics can also benefit you if you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome as well, which is covered a bit more extensively in other articles written by us here.

As you can see, prebiotics are really great for the human body.  They have many benefits, many of which people do not know much about.

Finding a way to incorporate prebiotics into your system is important especially for your digestive system.  You can find prebiotics in many supplements; also they are available naturally in some of the foods we eat as well.

Whatever way you choose to get your prebiotic powers in works just fine.  Once you start taking prebiotics, we are sure you will love how you feel and love the results you see on both the inside and the outside.
