Taking a Trip through Our Digestive System – How Does the Digestive System Work ?

Our digestive system is one of the most important organ systems in our body.  It is responsible for many important functions of the body, the most important being nutrient absorption.

Our body needs to absorb nutrients from the food we eat in order to function properly.  Learning how the digestive system works is extremely important for anyone who is dealing with issues related to their digestive health.

Our digestive system starts with our mouth.  Out mouth is used to engulf food, and our teeth are needed to chew the food down into swallow- size pieces.  There are glands located in the mouth that aid in the breakdown of the food by releasing saliva.

how does your digestive system work

Your digestive system is a complex system, consisting of many parts.

Saliva helps to water down the food we are eating to make it fit down our esophagus.  The esophagus is the next stop on our trip through the digestive system.  The esophagus is basically a long tube that starts in our throat and travels down to the stomach.

The main function of the esophagus to transport food from the mouth to the stomach, where it is further broken down into smaller bits.

The stomach is what most people think of when they think of our digestive system.  Although it is important, it is not the only part of our digestive system.  The stomach is a large sack about the size of your fist.

The stomach can also expand, and it is generally said that the stomach can hold about 1 liter of broken down food.  The stomach is a muscular organ that turns and churns the food inside.

Gastric juices are present to help break down the food even more.  These gastric juices are extremely acidic in order to break down the food.  After being digested in the stomach, the food passes down to the small intestine.

The first part of the small intestine is the duodenum.  The duodenum is the bridge between the stomach and the small intestine.  The food goes through the duodenum and through the small intestine.  The small intestine, if taken out of our body and measured, is many feet long.

The extended length of the small intestine is solely for nutrient absorption.  The food travels through the small intestine and many nutrients our body needs are absorbed through the mucosal walls.  The nutrients travel through our blood and are delivered to where they are needed in the body.  After spending a few hours in the small intestine, our food gets shipped over to the large intestine.

The large intestine is the last possible place for nutrients to be absorbed.  Mostly, what ends up in the large intestine is waste that our body does not need nor use.  This waste gets turned into stool, and is eventually expelled through the body by way of the anus.

The entire digestive process from start to finish can take anywhere from 16-24 hours all together.  Having a working digestive system is extremely important in order for correct function of our bodies.

Natural Supplements Are the Key To A Healthy Digestive System

There are a lot of processed foods that are sold in the grocery store. It’s very difficult to eat healthy. The next best thing you can do is take natural supplements.

A very healthy natural supplement that has been shown to improve digestion is kiwi fruit supplements. Kiwi fruit is a natural functional food, that has many health benefits.

Make sure you only buy kiwi fruit that uses both the fruit itself and the outer skin. The outer skin of the kiwi fruit contains many nutrients and antioxidants. Most companies only use the fruit. Also make sure to buy a product that uses a water based method of processing. This ensures that you only get a very pure product. Other companies use heat to process their kiwi fruit, which in turn, destroys most of the nutrients. Although, some of these kiwi fruit supplements still work, imagine a supplement that is even better.

We’ve found a company based in New Zealand that meets the requirements above. Be sure to check them out, and learn more about this kiwi fruit supplement.

Not only is the product very high quality, the company has a 6 month  money-back-guarantee, if your not completely satisfied with your purchase. If that doesn’t make you curious we don’t know what will.
